Apostle Ricky Dhingra: Invest Your Life in God: Your Life Is Worth More Than Money
"Your life is more precious than money. Money is for life. Life is not for money."

How many of you are making decisions during this series? It is a process. A well thought out decision can give direction to your whole life. Wherever we are today, we are there because at some point we chose something.

God has not predetermined our decisions. Our decisions show whether we will reach the plan God has for us. "The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed" (Matthew 26:24). God did not whisper in Judas's ear. Judas made his own decision. That is why God keeps sending influences into our lives, so that we make the decisions that take us in the direction of His will.

Today the decision is this: I will invest my life in God.

Your Destiny Is Not Only Yours

Your destiny is connected to many people. God does not only want us to reach the nations, but desire alone is not enough. To go, I need finances, connections, people who pray and people who stand with me. Before God made man, He gave breath, trees, animals and a whole environment. In the same way, before a calling, everything needed to fulfill it is already arranged. The way to release it is right decisions made through God's leading.

Your Life Is Worth More Than Money

Many people live in constant tension about money: the children's tuition, the household expenses, the debt. This anxiety is the pull of mammon, and it traps people into greedy and wrong decisions. The way out is faith that the Lord will take care of me.

Look how careful people are with money. Then why are we not as careful to protect and invest our lives?

Everyone understands that there is no growth without investment. Inflation eats savings. Money is useful when it is invested, and life is useful when it is invested. Your days are few, and they are being spent somewhere.

Don't Try to Help God

When I came to faith, I was in the family business with my father. He became very hostile, and I endured a lot from him. Today the Lord has blessed our relationship greatly, and I salute him because he never gave up on us. But back then I decided to separate my business. My thinking was, "God has called me to serve Him. I will earn and use it for His kingdom." I lost lakhs of rupees. I never managed to give even a tithe from that business.

So I learned: don't try to help God. You need God's help. If He has called me, I must trust Him. All my blessings and resources are tied to His plan. The more I invest myself in His plan, the more returns I see, and the first return is fulfillment, the sense that my life is going the right way.

Guard Your Boundaries

I recently read an article about believers who married outside the faith. It said one girl first called him "just an acquaintance," then "only a friend," then "we are dating, but I don't think I will marry him." Then she married him. It ended with a line I loved: marriage is not for romance; it is for the gospel and for the mission. If you lose sight of the goal of your life, one hasty decision can shake its whole foundation.

When we keep company with the world without limits, small changes come into us without our wanting them. What God wrote in His book for you makes no difference until you decide to invest your life in Him.

"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil" (Ephesians 5:15-16). Time is a currency. There is no part-time believer. Your commitment to God must be greater than every other commitment, even your marriage, your parents and your own life.

Jesus Gave His Life Willingly

"Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself" (John 10:17-18). Even though the Lamb was in God's plan from eternity, the One born on earth also decided, "I accept this plan."

In the life of God's children there are no accidents, only a plan. Some things hurt today, but tomorrow we will look back and say God worked it for good. "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God" (Romans 8:28).

If you trust God and decide to invest your life in Him, you have nothing to fear. "Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day... A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee" (Psalm 91:5, 7). "He that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" (Galatians 6:8). I have no regret that I gave my life into God's hands.

Live Like a Soldier

Paul said, "Neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy" (Acts 20:24). He also wrote, "Endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life" (2 Timothy 2:3-4).

My uncle is a retired colonel, and I have seen how differently soldiers live. Someone can give his youth for his country. Why do people find it strange when we give our lives to the Lord? Investing your life in God means:

  • Discipline: a lifestyle of prayer, the Word, good works and service. One day of prayer does nothing until it becomes a lifestyle.

  • No entanglements: you cannot serve freely while carrying debts and burdens you took on yourself.

  • Endurance: "Let us not be weary in well doing" (Galatians 6:9). The first time you try to do good, you will probably fall on your face. Don't give up.

  • Focus: you cannot be part of every project, every argument and every piece of breaking news. Say, "I am busy with God."

Talk to Your Younger Self

Try this exercise. Subtract twenty years from your age and imagine your younger self sitting beside you. What would you tell them? Destiny is never made by chance. A great life is a decided life. Decide today: "I want a fruitful life, not a comfortable life."

Go Deeper: I Have Decided

Investing your life in God is one of the five decisions at the heart of the book. This Decision series is drawn from my book I Have Decided (Hindi: मैंने निर्णय लिया है). Anchored in Daniel 1:8, it leads you into five life-changing decisions: to get serious with God, become a vessel of value, invest your life in Him, live with unshakable faith, and serve Him wholeheartedly.
